We are a large group with well over 400 paid up members. Luckily not all of them walk regularly!! We have an active committee supported by other volunteers who look after the interests of the group.
Walkers should have when walking:
* Walking boots and waterproof clothing
* A rucksack, to carry food, drinks and spare clothing
* Written details of their name, address and home telephone together with their doctor’s name and contact number.
The group encourages car sharing and walkers often meet at various points in and around Plymouth. The car share meeting location and meet time are given in the walks programme. Members need to be aware that occasionally no-one goes to the car share point. If a lift is essential for you then you should pre-arrange by phoning the walks leader who will try to secure you a lift. As a contribution to petrol and running costs it is suggested that the driver should be given £1 per 10 miles distance from car share to start.
In addition to the wide range of walks there are a number of social events during the year,
some linked with walks and others evening get togethers.
Throughout the year several walking/social weekends are organised by the members. These involve a Friday and Saturday night stay, usually at a Youth Hostel (the group has reduced rates). Mostly these are organised in stunning coastal locations. Walks, meals, pub trips and general socialising for the weekend are all taken care of.
Popular evening events: skittles, buffet evenings, BBQ and a full Christmas meal. The Thursday evening walks usually end close to a pub where food and drink is on offer to those who wish to finish the evening off with a beer, a bite to eat and a chat.
Details of these events are published on the web site and in the Plymouth Group Newsletter.
The Group welcomes any ideas members may wish to put forward for future social events.
The group Annual General meeting is held in late October at Derriford Church Hall. All members are welcome to attend.
