October 2006 - Walk from Cox Tor Car park

On Sunday 8th October11 children 9 adults and one dog met in Cox Tor car park. We were amazed to find a large number of Mercedes cars parked in the car park and a helicopter hovering overhead. We discovered this was in aid of a GMTV advert to be run in November. Fame at last!

The weather was very windy but warm. The advance party set off and did an extra leg to the cross on Walkham Common. The latecomers (who took a circuitous route to Cox Tor) soon caught up and we set off via some good climbing rocks and an aqueduct carrying the leat over a gulley on our way to the steep and seemingly endless uphill climb to the first of three Staple Tors. The children found following a dogs white tail through head high bracken very exciting!

We had lunch at Staple Tor number one and various climbing games were played for some time at each Tor. It was then more or less downhill to the pool between Roos and Cox Tors and then up gently to Cox Tor itself complete with trig point.

The ice cream van at the end was very welcoming and we were really glad to have missed the heavy rain which fell within an hour of our return.
